Improving Outcomes For Children With CHD

Fighting Pediatric Congenital Heart Disease

May 4, 2013

On June 18th, 2012 Trace Knight lost his three year fight against pediatric congenital heart disease – CHD – after 5 open heart surgeries, 7 catheter procedures and nearly half his life in the hospital. CHD is the number 1 birth defect and is the leading cause of defect related infant deaths. However, relatively speaking CHD receives the least amount of funding. Please help us in our fight against CHD.

Our initial focus is raising money to develop a new pediatric mitral valve that can be replaced in the catheter lab versus open heart surgery. In order to accomplish this goal we have partnered with Dr. Joshua Kanter Director of Children’s National Medical Center Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories and is also serves as Program Director for Children’s national Heart Institute. Dr. Kanter and his team are leading a research project to develop the new mitral valve. We are 25% of the way towards our initial funding goal of $200,000.
